T Regan, 35 is preparing to paddle the longitudinal dimensions of the Eastern seaboard onward a seven-month kayaking trip dedicated to raising AIDS awareness. He plans to state his 18-foot fiberglass boat into the water in Lubec, Maine, upon May 3 and arrive 2000 miles later in [i]clavis[/i] West, Fla., in early December.
At the same time Regan took up kayaking forward Maine's Casco Bay in 1994 a childhood friend, who introduced him to the ocean, died of AIDS-related complications. After several other friends died of complications from the disease, Regan said he decided to do something about it. A former merchant marine and teacher, Regan is directing the message of his journey, which he has rifled "2000 on 2000: An AIDS Awareness Expedition," at young nation through online linkups, in-person classroom visits, and fundraisers. "If you want to take risks and be really crazy, don't have unsafe sex--do something real," he says. "That's a big part of the message I sense of possible fulfilment to give to the kids."
